DAY 2: Exploring Tokyo’s Heritage Sites

Today will be a fascinating and educational exploration of the history and culture of Tokyo, with visits to important landmarks and museums, and the opportunity to try some delicious local cuisine.

We will start the day with a visit to the Imperial Palace East Garden, a beautiful and peaceful oasis located in the heart of the city. Today, the garden is open to the public and features beautiful gardens and historic ruins, including the remains of the castle's foundations and walls. You will have the opportunity to stroll through the gardens and learn about the history of the site.

Next, we will visit the Meiji Jingu Shrine, a Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. The shrine was built in 1920 to commemorate the Emperor's role in the modernization of Japan. The shrine is surrounded by a beautiful forest and features a large torii gate and beautiful buildings with intricate carvings and decorations. You will learn about the history and traditions of Shintoism, Japan's native religion, and have the opportunity to participate in a traditional Shinto ritual.

Afterwards, we will explore the Edo-Tokyo Museum, which showcases the history and culture of Tokyo during the Edo period (1603-1868). The museum features exhibits on art, architecture, fashion, and daily life during this fascinating period of Japanese history. You will have the opportunity to see recreations of Edo-era buildings and artifacts, and learn about the customs and traditions of the time.

Next, we will visit the Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, one of the oldest and most popular temples in Tokyo. The temple was founded in the 7th century and is dedicated to the bodhisattva Kannon. The temple features a large gate, a five-story pagoda, and a main hall with beautiful decorations and offerings. You will have the opportunity to learn about Buddhist traditions and customs, and to explore the bustling Nakamise shopping street, which features many traditional Japanese souvenirs and snacks.
